Dangote Truck Accident: Phyna’s Sister Dies Before Planned Treatment in India

The Dangote Group has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Ruth Otabor, younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna.

Ruth reportedly succumbed to injuries sustained in a road crash involving one of the company’s trucks near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State. The tragic incident occurred several weeks ago, leaving her in critical condition.

In a statement issued after her passing, the Dangote Group described the development as painful, noting that the company had since taken responsibility for her treatment.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Ruth Otabor, who was injured in the recent road incident involving one of our trucks in Auchi, Edo State,” the company said.

According to the firm, officials and insurance partners had been providing financial and medical support to the family since the crash. Plans had also been finalised to transfer Ruth abroad for advanced medical care.

“Our officials and insurance partners have been by her side, covering all financial and medical costs. Arrangements had been made for her to be flown to India for treatment, pending medical clearance from her doctors. Sadly, despite these efforts and Ruth’s brave fight, we lost her today,” the statement added.

Dangote Group further assured the public of its commitment to safety and accountability while condoling with the Otabor family.

“At Dangote Group, safety, accountability, and compassion remain at the core of our operations. We remain committed to strengthening our safety systems and supporting those affected in moments of tragedy. May God grant her mercy and eternal rest.”

Ruth’s passing was earlier confirmed in a statement issued by Eko Solicitors & Advocates, who spoke on behalf of the Otabor family.
